  7. Making it easier for users to contact support

We have designed a form to allow users to contact support within the service instead of having to send an email.

  8. Exploring how schools tell us when a teacher has left

We removed an explicit option for induction tutors to add themselves as a mentor, instead allowing them to do it through the normal “add mentor” flow.

We explored how induction tutors could apply filters to see early career teachers who’ve completed induction, or who were no longer training.

  13. Supporting Schools in LP-DP Transition

The ECF team created new screens and logic to offer clear options for school induction tutors (SITs) when their LP-DP partnership is unavailable.

  14. Temporary Cohorts for ECTs and Mentors

The ECF team added a new ‘determine temporary cohort’ user journey section to assign temporary cohorts for ECTs, ensuring access to funded training. The project highlighted the importance of research and visual aids to improve communication among team members.

  15. Second iteration of the new manage training dashboard

This work showcases the second iteration of the new dashboard design, focusing on UI and content changes based on recent user research. The changes include improvements to the “Manage training” and “Manage ECTs and mentors” pages, CSS improvements, and changes to improve scannability and routing. The team plans to continue making improvements in future iterations, including redesigning the participant profile page.

This work fulfills the requirement for a “cohortless” dashboard to aid schools and teachers in accessing ECF training and information. The new design emphasises accessibility, usability, and communication, adhering to principles such as simplicity, highlighting key actions, and providing clear content.

  17. Re-nomination journey

The ECF team simplified the renominating an induction tutor process and enhanced the user interface and guidance for an improved user experience.

  18. Refactoring our data model to facilitate changes in circumstances

When we launched the Manage training for early career teachers service in Autumn 2021, we focused on ensuring schools could choose how they want to deliver ECF-based training and register their early career teachers (ECTs) and mentors. Any changes in circumstances that result in changes to ECF-based training were deprioritised until post-launch.

  19. Facilitating participants moving schools during their induction

Based on census data, it is estimated that around 10% of early career teachers (ECTs) will move schools mid-way through their induction. As a result, they may need to change their training route and, in many circumstances, their DfE-funded training provider.

What are the problems around accessing the Manage training for early career teachers service?

  21. Core Induction Programme deep dive
